MY BACKGROUND

I spent the first decade of my career working with IBM, DataEase and VMARK Software, before setting up my own business in 1997 - which i sold to Next 15 Plc in 2014.

My career started with the launch of the IBM PS/2 and today I am still in awe of what technology enables us to achieve from autonomous vehicles to Artificial Intelligence (AI). What drew me to this industry 30 years ago still excites me today.

The 17 years running my own business were electric. My business partner Pete Lundie and I steered a high performance team to over £2M EBITA. With year-on-year growth, we were cash flow positive and debt free from the time we started to the day we sold.

Since selling the business on Valentines day 2014, I have worked with a number of boards and management teams to explore and consider modern marketing approaches and technologies to help them differentiate and grow.

MY PROFILE

MY PROFILE

MY PROFILE

It takes all kinds of people to contribute to a company’s success, from the board to the front line and everyone in between. teams need a varied thinking approach to really make them work.

So here's my marketing personality in full colour... You can see I'm inspiration driven, big picture thinking, moderately extraverted and obsessed by outcomes.

THINKING IN COLOURS...

My Lumina Spark Marketing Dynamix Self‐Portrait below provides a clear, jargon‐free insight into my personality in context to working with Marketing and leadership teams. It explores how I behave, acknowledges my strengths and identifies behaviours that I display.

This analysis integrates years of psychological research using the Big 5 approach as well as the work of Carl Jung. I love to use this approach with Marketing teams that I work with to help us understand our strengths and weaknesses and to help deliver our very best thinking.

CONTINUOUS INSIGHT

I wrote my first book in 2009 with the goal to help boards think differently about using customer insight to differentiate and win - mainly because that’s what my business (Ci) did at the time…

The book helped generate over £2m of incremental business and was called Continuous Insight - How to put customer insight into context so that you can better communicate, compete and win in the technology sector.

THE CONSTANT EXPERIMENT

My next book, titled The Constant Experiment is due to be published early 2018. It’s central point is that there are no guarantees when designing and implementing modern marketing approaches, if you see these projects and campaigns as experiments then the relationship and dynamics between sales, marketing and the board are so much more healthier.
